Maximalist, rock and elegant, the belt with a large buckle is causing a sensation on the Parisian catwalks

For several seasons now, the belt has gone beyond its utilitarian function to become a fashion accessory in its own right. At Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2025-2026, it is making a statement with XXL buckles that are catching everyone’s attention.

Maximalism is definitely the watchword for 2025 trends. It translates into vibrant colors, bold patterns and cuts with disproportionate proportions, both on our clothes and our accessories. On the fall-winter 2025-2026 catwalks, this exuberance is even making its way to our belts, which are adopting an XXL format. While in previous seasons, they played on accumulation in layering , they are now sufficient in themselves thanks to their imposing buckles, gold or silver. One or two buckles, it doesn’t matter: their spectacular size instantly captures attention and instills a rock and rebellious look, structuring sophisticated silhouettes. A detail that is ultimately not one, and which promises to impose itself with panache on our hips this season.

The belt with big buckles: the accessory that makes the difference

It can be spotted from afar on Chloé’s fall-winter 2025-2026 catwalk. In addition to the reissue of the legendary Paddington bag , which delighted fashionistas, the black leather belts with imposing gold buckles designed by Chemena Kamali left no one indifferent. Diverted from their primary function, they rest delicately on the models’ hips, structuring the silhouette while infusing a rock touch. A striking contrast with the boho-chic silhouettes of the collection, which evoke the indie sleaze aesthetic of the 2010s. They can be found paired with black mini-skirts and white blouses, or even with long, airy skirts, ballet flats and lace tops. At Balmain , the belt also plays the maximalism card with an imposing gold buckle, a nod to the house’s new “Anthem” it-bag. It adds structure to a pristine utility jumpsuit, a puffy coat or an oversized vest. For its part, Acne Studios revisits the trend with belts whose buckle takes the shape of a heart engraved in a western style, matching faded jeans and leather blouses. A Texan spirit that can also be found at Schiaparelli, where belts with large buckles are adorned with the house’s emblematic lock or motifs inspired by cowboy attire, worn in accumulation.

If this accessory is a must-have for next winter, nothing is stopping us from adopting it now to stay ahead of the trend. Placed on the hips of a skirt or dress for a low-waisted effect, or adjusted at the waist on a wool coat to give it character. For an even more striking effect, we can play on layering and multiply the belts, just to fully assert our look.
