Matthieu Blazy becomes the new chief designer at Chanel

He is stepping into one of the most influential positions and among the most prestigious in the industry.

French-Belgian Matthieu Blazy (40) has worked for several of the biggest fashion houses, including Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Maison Margiela and Céline. In recent years, he has been creative director at the Italian luxury fashion house Bottega Veneta.

At the same time as it was announced that his successor at Bottega Veneta would be Louise Trotter, news came that Blazy would take over at Chanel.

There has been great excitement about who would take over the role of chief designer for the French luxury fashion house, after Virginie Viard left Chanel in June this year.

“I am thrilled and honored to be joining the amazing Chanel. I look forward to meeting all departments and writing a new chapter together,” Blazy said in a statement .

As chief designer at Chanel, one of the most recognized and respected fashion houses, Blazy and his work will have enormous influence on trends and consumer patterns.

There is also a lot of excitement surrounding the new head designer’s plans for Chanel. At Bottega Veneta, he created “denim” jeans and “canvas” shirts from the brand’s signature leather. By using the signature leather while thinking outside the box, he developed the brand and shows that he is true to a brand’s heritage.

Chanel has been looking for someone with proven commercial success, who is well-liked in the industry, and who can give good interviews, writes Vogue . Most importantly, it had to be a designer who creates forward-thinking and exciting clothes.
