After Katerina Jacob (66) had to fight breast cancer, she has now received another serious diagnosis: “Unfortunately, I was told at the beginning of this year that I have Hashimoto’s. As if this stupid cancer wasn’t enough, now they’ve put the icing on the cake,” the actress explains to Spot on news. The chemotherapy destroyed her thyroid.
One of the symptoms of the disease was that Katerina “got incredibly fat.” She now faces a year of Hashimoto’s treatment with a team of specialists who will try to “lose the weight” with a specific diet and various tablets.
To achieve the goal, her metabolism will initially be set to zero. Katerina will therefore have to do without carbohydrates, sugar, and fish for the time being and will be allowed to eat a maximum of one egg a week. “It’s a catastrophe,” she explains, as she is a vegetarian and can therefore only eat meat. She is also gluten and lactose intolerant.
My menu has shrunk so much that no one wants to come to my house for dinner anymore. […] I’m constantly having to mix something up,” adds the Munich native. Despite everything, the treatment has gone “quite well” so far. “I’ve already lost two kilos […] I last weighed 100 kilos and I’m 1.64 metres tall. That’s pretty bad,” she reveals in an interview. Now she hopes to be a full 20 kilos lighter by the end of this year.
Around three years ago, Katerina was diagnosed with breast cancer. After five lumps were removed during an operation, she underwent two stubborn chemotherapy treatments, which she completed. In November 2022, she announced the happy news that she was cancer-free. “I thank my body. It was hard work for it. It handled it well,” the “Bulle von Tölz” actress proudly announced in an interview with Bild.
