Among many wonderful jewels, Elle Fanning’s Cartier necklace was one of the most eye-catching at the Oscars. Some theories claim that it could well be a tiara that Wallis Simpson ordered from the jewelry firm and only wore on a few occasions.
The 97th edition of the Oscars did not have the most spectacular red carpet in history, but it was full of small details that we overlooked that same night but that are worth stopping to think about. Among them, Elle Fanning ‘s spectacular Cartier necklace , a piece that could be much more special than we think. The actress walked the red carpet in an elegant white dress with a sweetheart neckline, a flared skirt with lace and a black bow belt by Givenchy.
It was the perfect dress to show off her spectacular necklace: a priceless vintage Cartier jewel from 1958 , attached to the neck with a row of diamonds from which another row hung in semi-arches. Fanning completed the look with a Cartier watch and a beautiful pavé ring, also vintage. But without a doubt, the necklace is worth stopping for. It bears an exceptional resemblance to one of the tiaras worn by Wallis Simpson , Duchess of Windsor, more than seven decades ago. And it has not taken long for the theory to emerge that Elle Fanning’s necklace could be a modern adaptation of that tiara.

In 1949, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor commissioned an emerald and diamond tiara from Cartier . The tiara was designed as a row of arches with a base of emerald beads that Wallis only wore on a few occasions before we stopped seeing her forever. Canadian antique dealer and jeweler Dany Tremblay supports the theory that this tiara , far from being divided into precious stones to make new jewels, could well have been given by Wallis Simpson to acquire another piece and remained in the Cartier archives until now.
