Tensions could already be building between Prince William (42) and his father, King Charles III (76) – at least according to reports from British media speculating about William’s plans for his future reign. The Prince of Wales is said to be preparing extensively for the moment when he ascends the throne one day.

He apparently already has several members of the royal family in mind who will support him in his task: In addition to his aunt and uncle, Duchess Sophie (60) and Prince Edward (60), royal relatives Zara (43) and Mike Tindall (46) are also highly regarded.

While the future king does not officially want to employ any more “working royals” under his reign, Zara and Mike – who do not have titles – could still take on a central role. They are considered to be closely connected to William and have already scored points in the past with representative tasks, such as at a garden party last year.

Sophie and Edward are already important members of the royal family and maintain a close relationship with William and Kate (43). A source from the royal family explained: “Sophie is a very strong personality who clearly represents her opinions and has often been underestimated. But she has proven that she consistently supports her husband Edward and her role in the family.” The two couples have already appeared at joint events in the past and demonstrated a close bond.

Sophie and Edward, who married in 1999 and have two children, are considered reliable pillars of the family. Sophie, once a PR consultant, has increasingly consolidated her role as Duchess of Edinburgh in recent years. Edward took over the title of his father, Prince Philip (✝99), after his death and is primarily involved in charities.

Zara and Mike, both former professional athletes, lead a rather unconventional life away from royal protocol and are not only popular with the public thanks to their easy-going nature, but are also valued members of the royal family. It is precisely this combination that could make them valuable supporters for William when he one day ascends the throne.
