Demi Moore triumphs at SAG Awards with a speech for “that little girl who didn’t believe in herself”

The 62-year-old actress is now experiencing her sweetest resurgence in Hollywood with a list of awards that keeps growing thanks to her role in The Substance. These were her words of gratitude and the story behind them.

With less than a week to go until the 2025 Oscars, Demi Moore has confirmed herself as the big favourite to take home the golden statuette on 2 March in Los Angeles. To her shelf of awards at home for her acclaimed role in The Substance – which already includes a Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe and a Satellite Award – the 62-year-old actress has now added her triumph for Best Actress at the SAG Awards . An award given by the Screen Actors Guild of America to which the actress wanted to give a very special ‘thank you’ .

“I joined this incredible organization when I was 15, almost 16 years old.
It changed my life because it gave me meaning, purpose, direction. Because I was a little girl who was alone and who didn’t have a life plan ,” the actress began her acceptance speech. Visibly moved and feeling the need to take a deep breath between each of her words, Moore ultimately wanted to dedicate her award to
“that little girl who didn’t believe in herself . “

Demi Moore on her physical change: “For years I was my own worst enemy”

However, behind these beautiful words of gratitude towards her inner child, there is a hard story that she herself told in her stark memoir Inside Out. My Story (Roca, 2019). A childhood marked by the abandonment of her father, the suicide of her stepfather and the addiction of her mother made the actress grow up in an unstable environment that led her to fight, years later, against her own addictions . “There is no money, success or fame that can fill the shame and unresolved traumas in you ,” she herself wrote. And the aesthetic pressure of Hollywood only reinforced that insecurity.

Having become the highest-paid actress of the 1990s, she subjected herself to extreme diets and obsessive workouts, convinced that her appearance defined her worth.
“For years I was my own worst enemy ,” she recounted in her autobiography, recalling her obsession with her body and the damage she inflicted on herself to meet industry standards. Now 62, Moore stars in
The Substance , a
film that
denounces the tyranny of youth and the obsession with beauty . Thus, her successful comeback also appears to be an unprecedented statement against the demands that for so many years tried to define her.
