TAL suggests 5.9% increase

TAL suggests 5.9% increase

The TAL made the announcement early this afternoon, by the Regulation on the criteria for setting rent, which takes into consideration the expenses incurred for basic unheated accommodation.

Assuming the suggestion is followed, a tenant paying $1,000 in rent could see his bill climb to $1,059 when his lease is renewed. Over a year, this is a difference of $709.

According to the data available to it in December, the Corporation des propriétaire immobiliers du Québec (CORPIQ) estimated the increase at 5.8%, La Presse revealed last week.

In 2024, the increase suggested by the TAL was 4%. For the past two years, cases brought for rent determination have been multiplying at a frantic pace. The waiting time before attending a first hearing can also extend over a full year.
