The director found a compromise with Netflix for her adaptation: an exclusive release two weeks before that of the platform.

Greta Gerwig, the director of Lady Bird and the global hit Barbie, has managed to convince Netflix!

With her billion dollars in revenue last year with Margot Robbie, she was able to influence Netflix’s policy and its broadcast strategy for its adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. The seven books by CS Lewis have sold more than 115 million copies and have been translated into 57 languages. Netflix therefore places a lot of hope in this project, which could become their next successful franchise.

The standoff between the two parties had been going on for several months, following the decision taken by the N rouge not to broadcast the new adaptations of the novels, reserving an exclusive streaming release during the Christmas period of 2026.

A commercial strategy prized by the platform that did not please the director of the pink box office of summer 2023, having brought in more than 1.5 billion dollars. Imax has just announced that Narnia should be released on screen two weeks before its broadcast on the platform, on Thanksgiving Day 2026.

We remember Daniel Craig’s outburst for the 2022 release of Glass Onion: Knives Out, which was cut short to just one week of airing. Perhaps this time, Netflix was trying to avoid the wrath of the artists behind the project.
