Ready for a new clash of the titans? This Friday, November 8, 2024 at 9:10 p.m., Canal+ is broadcasting Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire , also available on the MyCanal platform , a continuation of the on-screen adventures of the two most iconic monsters in the history of cinema. Three years after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong , a huge box-office success worldwide never released in theaters in France and in which the terrible Mechagodzilla was defeated, King Kong now lives in peace in the Hollow Earth, under the earth’s crust. For his part, Godzilla remains on the earth’s surface and takes care of eliminating giant creatures that threaten humanity. But there’s no time to be idle! Because the two giant beasts will have to join forces to face a new and most formidable enemy.
Millie Bobby Brown absent from the film, director Adam Wingard explains this choice
While Rebecca Hall ( A Promise ) , Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle are back in the shoes of their respective characters, Millie Bobby Brown already present in the cast of Godzilla 2 – King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong is missing and has not reprised her role as Madison Russell in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The reason? Director Adam Wingard gives it to our British colleagues at Digital Spy : ” Madison didn’t quite fit the story I wanted to tell. I felt like we wrapped up the King of the Monsters arc in the last movie (…). We really wanted to reduce the number of characters in the movie in order to have a more intimate journey with them. That’s why our group is relatively small, both on the monster side and the human side, so that we have more time to be with them. “
The MonsterVerse Expands with Big Beasts
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the fifth film in the MonsterVerse, a franchise launched by Warner and in collaboration with Toho, the famous Japanese studio that produced the very first Godzilla in 1954. It thus brings together productions centered around the two most iconic creatures of the seventh art. In addition to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the saga also includes Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla (2014) , Kong: Skull Island (2017) , Godzilla 2 – King of the Monsters (2019) in which, moreover, Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things makes her debut on the big screen and finally Godzilla x Kong . That’s some big beasts!
