Malcolm is back

A limited mini-series in the form of season 8, will take place during the 40th wedding anniversary of Hal and Lois. But will all the children answer the call?

Family reunion in sight! Almost twenty years after the end of Malcolm, the cult series is making its comeback. Disney+ has just officially ordered a sequel, with the return of the main stars of the original cast.

Bryan Cranston—who has since become a superstar thanks to Breaking Bad—will return to play Hal. Jane Kaczmarek will return to play Lois. Frankie Muniz—who left Hollywood to pursue a career in auto racing—will return to acting to play Malcolm.

This untitled season 8 will consist of four episodes. It is a limited return imagined by the creator of the series, Linwood Boomer, and will be seen on the Disney platform, Disney +, which has held the rights since the acquisition of Fox.

The story’s pitch is already known: Malcolm is going to reunite with his family for Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary. Malcolm and his daughter find themselves thrown into family chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party, the synopsis precisely describes

But where will the other brothers be? This is the question that is bothering us, while Justin Berfield (Reese), Erik Per Sullivan (Dewey) and Christopher Masterson (Francis) have not yet been announced in the cast. How can you remake Malcolm without reconstituting the siblings? Suffice to say that we are eagerly waiting to find out whether they will participate (or not) in their parents’ birthday.

For now, Disney has just said: ” Malcolm is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart, and authenticity. Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of an adorably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re thrilled to welcome back the original cast to bring that magic back to life.”

Ken Kwapis , who has directed several episodes of the series in the past, will direct all four episodes. No date set yet.
