The best kept secrets of Ariana Grande and Sofia Richie’s makeup artist

All of our favorite celebrities seem to be experts at doing their makeup or at least have a signature style that consistently makes them look flawless daily. However, the ones behind the magic are their makeup artists, including Daniel Chinchilla, Global Celebrity Makeup Artist for Too Faced and the mastermind behind the ‘staple looks ‘ that have gone viral on celebrities like our it-girl star Sofia Richie and the ever-glamorous Ariana Grande. We spoke with the Los Angeles-based makeup artist to understand the keys behind his signature work and his best-kept beauty secrets.

The beauty secrets of celebrity makeup artists like Sophie Richie and Ariana Grande

Understand your face and what you want to highlight
Most people believe that they need makeup to “cover-up” imperfections or certain aspects of our face that we don’t like, however, the key is to highlight your favorite features and focus on accentuating them.

Chinchilla explained to ¡Hola! that something fundamental when it comes to doing your makeup the right way is the way you apply your contour. “Most people make a mistake when doing their contouring by choosing the wrong shade,” because when it comes to choosing the shade, you should look for one with cool undertones and two shades darker than the color of your foundation (which should be the same as your skin tone). Go for a light formula and don’t forget to blend, that’s the trick. When we asked about her favorite, she mentioned that Too Faced’s Chocolate Soleil is always in her makeup kit.

Find what you like and go from there

There are those who opt for red lips like Olivia Rodrigo or Taylor Swift, or there are those who prefer an “over blushed” makeup like Sofia Richie or something full of shine like Sabrina Carpenter, and there are others who make eyeliner their personality like Amy Winehouse did in her time and Ariana Grande does today.

The key is to experiment to find what suits you or what makes you feel most comfortable. What many don’t know is that these divas are forced to experiment, play with products, and occasionally make certain changes or updates to ultimately find what makes them look (and feel) most beautiful.

Eyelashes are (almost) everything

Let’s be honest, nothing changes the look of your face more than having the perfect lashes. And while a good mascara formula is key, the expert told us that what makes the difference is applying it with the brush vertically, as opposed to horizontally as people are used to. By combing your lashes with the brush vertically, you will achieve better coverage of your lashes and have more control in the application.

Are you applying your foundation wrong?

Among the thousands of trends and content creators we see on social media, it’s easy to assume the correct way to apply your makeup. However, Daniel Chinchilla told us that there are two important things to consider: the amount of product you apply and the way you do it.

You don’t need to apply too much makeup. “We want people to compliment us on us, not on our makeup,” the expert added. “Foundation should be applied in thin, light layers, this way your skin will have a more natural finish (which is ideal), and you ensure long-lasting wear, never too much.”
