Ladj Ly announces his next film

Ladj Ly announces his next film: "I was captivated by the story of the first black General of the French army"

The director of Les Misérables teams up with Dimitri Rassam (The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo), and reunites with his producers at Srab Films.

The end of his Les Misérables trilogy will have to wait: Ladj Ly has just been announced as the director of Dumas – Diable noir. Pathé, Chapter 2 (Mediawan) and Srab Films (Asacha Media Group) have just announced his hiring for this free adaptation of the comic strip Le Premier Dumas created by Salva Rubio and Ruben del Rincón and published by Glénat. That is “the extraordinary and little-known story of Thomas Alexandre Davy de La Pailleterie Dumas, a slave born in 1762 in the Caribbean who, against all odds, became a General in the French army during the Revolution and whose son is one of the most famous writers in the world: Alexandre Dumas”, details the first synopsis.

The director expresses his joy at being able to tell this story on the big screen:

Toufik Ayadi and Christophe Barral, the founders of Srab Films, say they are delighted to team up again with the director, with whom they collaborated on Les Misérables and its “sequel”, Bâtiment 5 :

“We are thrilled to continue working with Ladj Ly and push the boundaries of cinema even further by entrusting him with the reins of this ambitious film. Ladj will bring his unique artistic vision to the extraordinary journey of this forgotten hero. We are very happy to embark on this new adventure with Chapter 2 and Pathé and to bring this incredible story to the general public.”

As for Dimitri Rassam, the president and founder of Chapter 2, he does not hide his enthusiasm at the idea of continuing to “explore the legacy of the Dumas family” , he who supported The Three Musketeers – D’Artagnan and Milady, as well as The Count of Monte Cristo, with Pierre Niney, which recently crossed the 9 million admissions mark in France.

“While delving into Dumas’ work, I stumbled upon the story of his father, General Dumas,” he explains. “I was stunned to discover his extraordinary journey and very surprised that he was not better known. Ladj Ly was an obvious choice to bring this story to the big screen in a film that lives up to its protagonist, who is as complex and fascinating as General Dumas himself. I look forward to working with Pathé again and collaborating for the first time with Arab Films. After the adaptations of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, honoring the legacy of the Dumas family has taken on an even greater importance and I am convinced that DUMAS – DIABLE NOIR has all the ingredients to make an extremely captivating film.”

The cast of Dumas – Diable Noir is not yet known, but with filming scheduled for next summer, Ladj Ly has time to assemble a talented team.
